~ Jon Download Beekeeping For Dummies (For Dummies (Lifestyle)) 4th Edition
I'm brand new to beekeeping and, in fact, have not even received anything to get started with yet. I downloaded another beginner's book before this one and it was a bit too simple. But, I am a little"old school" and would rather have a physical book than to continue moving online to find all the information I needed. . .it's just in too many areas to keep track.
It's a great reference. There are many specifics to beekeeping like species, locales, hive types, etc. and this one comprises at least a little about a lot of that to bear into account. It will stick to their own recommendation for complete beginners though and so the majority of the information in it that concentrate kingdom.
I have learned quite a lot in the book and it prompted me to not wait to start downloading particular items so I'm ready for my May bee nuc. I can see this book as a great"go-to" reference once I have questions or concerns moving forward, with no issue. I still have a ton to learn, but I believe anyone starting out in beekeeping wants this book.

If you'd like to find out more about how the body works but do not need to read textbooks on human anatomy and physiology, then this is the book for you. As Bryson writes,"We pass our existence within this warm Length of flesh and take it entirely for granted." We are the product of three thousand years of evolutionary refinement, a biological system of unimagined complexity, and yet most people can't actually identify where the spleen is, or what it will.
If this book doesn't pique your interest in the way your system works, then nothing probably will. Bryson takes the reader through each body , describing the anatomy and structure of all but also providing historical information, expert interviews, and biographical details on the leaders of medical discovery. Bryson, as usual, writes in an informative and entertaining manner, presenting information in smart ways (for example, when he states that a portion of your cerebral cortex the size of a grain of sand can hold 1.2 billion copies of this book.)
I also appreciate how Bryson does not mindlessly repeat the cliches we always here without performing his research. It is commonly stated we only use 10 percent of our brains, or that our own body contains 10 times as many bacterial cells as individual cells. It turns out that these announcements, among others, are false, and Bryson shows you . He doesn't take anything for granted and researches all of such claims.
You will also come to understand--not just how much you don't understand about your system --but also how much of your body nobody understands. The body is unfathomably complex, and many locations and works remain mysterious.
If I needed to say anything negative about the book, it could be the absence of illustrations. Some diagrams would be helpful, especially on the sections covering body, as it's difficult to visualize the structures as he's describing them. Also, don't expect to dive deeper to the functioning of every body --the details are discerning and you're likely to receive equal steps of the background behind the discoveries. This isn't a bad thing, as long as you're expecting it.
In general, this is probably the best popular book on the subject, and a fantastic entry point for further research in anatomy, physiology, human development, or medicine.

Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, who's also referred to as the"black science man" on various internet forums, such as reddit. Dr. Tyson's also got some popular online memes styled after him such as the"we have a bad ass over here" meme. However, in real life he's the director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York City and is an extremely accomplished astrophysicist. In a great deal of ways, he is the Carl Sagan of our generation. In case you have seen the TV series Cosmos on PBS or Fox, then he is the new host for this revamped series which was hosted by Carl Sagan. He's very well known for his capacity to take scientific theories and distill them into something which we are able to understand. I am no scientist, so I need someone who understands these concepts to describe them in a way that we are able to relate to.
This book is a choice of little essays that he's written for a variety of newspapers, magazines, and online blogs. He then goes on to ignore that complication and then talk about gravity and what occurs as you move closer to and then farther from a center of mass.
Dr. Tyson is one of the finest scientific minds of our creation, and his major contribution to science is the ability to contact the layman, that is you and me, and help them understand why science is so important to today's society. Therefore, in the event that you want a few laughs, and if you would like to learn about astrophysics, astronomy,"regular" physics, and the rest of the incredible things that occur within our cosmos, then I would recommend reading Death by Black Hole.

This is a publication for bird fans of all sorts.
There's a section about the societal aspect of birds, subtitled"twitter". This is intriguing too. The reader will learn about how different types of birds bond, and how they teach their young to perform certain important actions they'll gradually need to endure. Also discussed is how some kinds of birds instruct others in their particular"group" techniques they have been trained. , Incredibly, scientists have educated certain birds to open feeders at a distinctive manner. Then they could watch and track as their trained birds performed the tasks in the woods. The birds they'd trained was able to train other wild members to do exactly as they did, What collaborative little creatures!

You will learn this complicated process of vocal learning is termed as"advanced", because, it's done"our way", eg., the way people teach their children, and the way children learn to selectively speak.The male songbirds who have improved tunes appeal to the females more, too.As the author writes,"Listening for super-sexy syllables enables female canaries to rule out men with poor bilateral co-ordination" This is important, if you are a lady canary!
Read on, through this award-winning author's book, to learn about birds who decorate:"the bird artist", birds that will map:"a mapping thoughts" and finally, sparrows:"sparrowville".
This is a book to curl up with at the winter, or to take along on your own cruise. It doesn't have photographs, just a few sketches of birds opening each chapter, but this isn't the point of this publication. The Guru of Birds is all about behaviours, patterns, reversal learning, that bird would be the"world's dumbest"--yesit has an offering for that, but maybe not the author's (and I cracked up at that part!!!) , the importance of studying birds in their own natural environment to learn more and better understand them, and plenty more. The Genius of Birds is a significant read, but nothing in it is wasted on the prepared reader. I applaud Ackerman for taking me outdoors and to all sorts of amazing places, when she wrote this uplifting, extraordinary book about beautiful, amazing birds.

A few things first: I am a degreed botanist who had a 3 ring binder in which I had described the qualities of every plant family found in California and virtually all plant families located in america. I lost it during a move sometime past. I downloaded this publication in 2006 to help prevent copying all of that info again. I never looked in the book until this year when I made a decision to key out some weeds from the backyard. Although I discovered a couple of errors in the text (that only a taxonomist or morphologist would see), but overall this publication duplicated my three ring binder plus it added other information on use and toxicity. I have read it through a few times and pick up little details each moment. Sure an untrained person is going to have some difficulty using it without first taking the opportunity to understand the fundamentals of a plant. Nothing is free. With only a little effort this book will be very useful. And please be aware that the author essentially described the demographics of where this book would be helpful: 85% in Montana (where he resides ) and 5% in Florida (where I figure that he never dwelt ).
Update 11/5/2012: Only found a beautiful weed from the backyard. Used this book to determine it was from the Solanum family. Unfortunately it is a genus that wasn't covered in the book. . .but the book was helpful in removing all the other genera. Double checked my results by employing the Calphotos website and sure enough there it was. Botany in a Day is very useful even when the genus is not present in the book!

I've learned many new things already (3/4 of the way through book 1); nonetheless I think it is worth stating a couple of potential issues that haven't been elucidated by additional reviews. Finally I am happy that I downloaded the novels but I would not recommend them to others without reservation.
To begin with, I do not think these books are acceptable for someone who doesn't yet have background in this content. They move very quickly and do not spend enough time on any 1 subject to properly ingrain it in the mind. If you are trying to educate yourself from scratch, I would recommend a conventional textbook over these lectures. If you do choose to go with them, you will also have to download a supplement like"Exercises for the Feynman Lectures on Physics" because the publication doesn't have some problem places.
Second, the novels are showing their age. There were several points in which for example a 3d graph would have made things much clearer, but due to the constraints of the time it wasn't possible to supply such a guess. There was an entire chapter on numerical calculation which is interesting purely in a historical fashion now, as it teaches you how calculation was completed before the availability of pocket calculators. There were a few points where Feynman said that something wasn't figured out in the time, and I was left wondering when we had enhanced our understanding of it at the 50 years since. The fundamental material has not changed at all since Feynman gave the lectures, but there are still many little ways that the era of these books are a detriment.
Finally, I agree with the other comments about hard to read glossy paper, small print, and inadequate use of space.
